Candy Corn Nails - revisited

The last time I wore a candy corn manicure was in 2010 and I can't tell you how many random strangers commented on my nails. So, this year, I decided to re-create it. Now, it's an easy manicure to create, you just need a little patience and some scotch tape....yeah. I have no patience. So, this is my 2nd attempt. The 1st time I didn't let the orange base dry enough and the tape pulled the color up with it. I tell you, me and nail art just don't get along.

For this mani, I used a base of Sally Hansen Insti Dry in Orange Impuse (see yesterday's mani). I waited about and hour and then added scotch tape down the middle and used Sally Hansen Insti Dry Quick Canary (could have used a 2nd coat) and Wet n Wild White.

Even though the yellow is a bit sheer, I really love the results, what a fun mani!

Sally Hansen Insta Dry: Orange Impulse

As much as I love this time of year, it does get a bit dreary getting used to the short amount of daylight. So even though it might be a little late in the year for wearing bright colors on the nail, I still loved wearing Orange Impulse. Perfect remedy. Orange Impulse is a nice and bright orange color, I suppose it'd be considered a neon, but I don't know if I'd call it that. Check out the pick:

Don't you hate it when you finish a nice and neat looking manicure and you end up smudging one finger? So annoying, but I was too lazy to fix it. ha ha.

Pumpkin Polishes - 2012 Edition

Last year there were a ton of new pumpkin polishes, so this year I was pretty excited to see what they came out with for 2012. Well, to my disappointment, there were only two new colors from last year's crop.

The base color here is a Claw polish called Bloodshed, which is great name for this color. It's a right red cream. In case you're not familiar with Claw polishes, they come in these great coffin shaped bottles.

One of the two pumpkins here is a clear base filled with orange micro glitter and orange and black bar glitters. This is one coat overtop Bloodshed. I really like the red underneath. The bar glitters don't really lay flat on the nail, so that's a bit of texture.

This next polish is another Claw polish called Poison. Poison is a bright shiny purple that my camera did not love. Every photo made it look blue for some reason, but I was lucky enough to grab one decent one that is pretty close to accurate. It's still a bit more blue in this photo than IRL.

So, overtop Poison, I'm wearing the 2nd new pumpkin polish of the season. This one a clear base with bunches of light purple hexes. This is also the type of glitter that doesn't exactly lay flat and smooth on the nail. I liked the two together, but this type of glitter isn't my favorite.

Ok, so a quick rant. I HATE this curly glitter trend - I think Polish Addict was the one who labeled them "taco glitter". I like my polish smooth, I can't stand when the ends start to curl up and snag on things. Blach. Ok, I guess that wasn't really a rant....ha ha.

I know I've been MIA for a while, so what the heck have I been up to? Well, we just bought a house! Looks like we'll be moving sometime in December if all goes well. I'm so excited!!

Jessica: 735 Pumpkin Spice & Halloween Fun

Words cannot express how much I love this polish, I took so many pictures, it was hard to narrow it down to three! LOL. Pumpkin Spice....yum, just have a look:
Amazing, huh? Has anyone done anything fun for Halloween yet? This weekend, we're going to Greenfield Village for their Halloween weekend. Greenfield Village is a historic village in our area and for Halloween they really do it up. There are hundreds of lit jack o lanterns along the pathways, they have awesome scarecrows, giant pumpkins and even the Headless Horseman. Here are some picks from last year's trip. I can't wait!
(of course I'm the one in the Fleetwood Mac hoodie! LOL)

I'm your Huckleberry....

Today I have some tombstone polish spam. I'm so ready for the Halloween season! The 1st color is #12423 Creepy Pumpkin. CP is a sheer orange base loaded with orange micro glitter. This is one coat over black:
Next, we have #11137 Black Magic. BM is a clear base with multi colored thin bar glitter. Just like Creepy Pumpkin, this is one coat over black:
This color is also called Black Magic, but it has a different number #12422. This polish is black with multi color super micro glitter.
And lastly, we have #11139 Night Glow. NG is a glow in the dark topcoat. This is two coats, and as you can see, it leaves a bit of a haze overtop the base color:
Now, I held both the bottle and my nails right up to the light for a decent amount of time, and although the bottle glowed brightly, there was zero glow on the nails.

Essie: Wrapped in Rubies and Finger Paints: It Baroque

In honor my broken nails growing out enough to finally have a free edge, I was inspired to show off two colors today 8-) It's nice to be able to polish my nails and actually have them look decent now.

First up is Essie Wrapped in Rubies. The bottle shows a reddish brown color with heavy amounts of gold shimmer. On the nail, the shimmer isn't anywhere near as noticeable as the bottle and there really isn't any brown, it still translates into a nice autumn red color. Perfect for this time of year. I really loved wearing this one.
The next color up for today is Finger Paints It Baroque. It's an army green shade that's so earthy, I just love it. I don't own many FP polishes, but this one was pretty perfect. The formula and brush were amazing, I had enough control when applying that I didn't have to do any cleanup (a rarity for me! LOL).

Jessica #734 Cinnamon Kiss

There are only 4 letters I can use to describe this polish....L O V E. Once I saw photos of this collection on Scrangie's Blog and I knew I had to find someplace to order it....eBay to the rescue! LOL. Cinnamon Kiss is from the Spicy Dream Fall 2012 Collection. There are some other great colors mixed in there too, I also have Gingersnap and Pumpkin Delight coming to me. I adore fall collections, they always have my favorite colors.

Gosh # 540 Ocean

I can't think of all that much to say about Ocean, for some reason this color is just meh to me. It's a prefect aqua blue, and would probably make a great base for some ocean themed nail art, but I just honestly cant' see myself wearing this solo. At least I got it cheap! LOL.

Nabi Magnetic: # 35 Teal II

Nabi has recently come out with some new magnetic colors, with different designs. This is Teal II, which has a wave design. What I like about this color is how the design is an aqua blue, but the color in between is a teal-y green glitter. Very pretty and so different than any other magnetic color I have in my collection (which is quite a few now).

Here's a good shot of the green glitter part:

I got my Nabi's from eBay, I have not seen these in stores like the previous ones.

Nabi: #60 New Gold Glitter

My 1st ever concert was in 1990 and I saw Faster Pussycat and Motley Crue on the Dr. Feelgood tour, and tonight I have tickets to see Motley Crue open for Kiss. I haven't seen them since my 1st show, so I'm pretty excited. This means I need some bling for the nails, so I decided to wear Nabi #60, New Gold Glitter.

NGG is a mixture of gold irregular shaped glitter, skinny holo bar glitter and bits of tiny red hexes. Unfortunately, I had the bright idea to sear this over Orly Buried Alive and the Nabi glitter just gets swallowed up in it.

Here's a closeup:

and I thought it best to show off the Nabi solo as well. I'm not sure what color would be the best base for it, but definitely something brighter and more subtle than Buried Alive:

Color Club Feelin' Groovy is a perfect Halloween green!

I was swatching Color Club's Feelin' Groovy the other day and after seeing it on the nail, I thought it was a perfect shade of bright Halloween green! I think it'd be a great color for a Frankenstein themed mani....I'll have to think on that one for a bit and see if I can come up with something fun.

In the meantime, check it out:

You could just add some simple stitches to it (of course you'd probably do a better job that I did! LOL):

or some orange glitter:

Orly: Buried Alive

This color was from the Dark Shadows collection, and I was lucky enough to snag one when Sally's had their 50% off clearance sale. I love the name, it's so Halloween, and of course totally fits into my present Halloween / Fall mindset lately 8-) Buried Alive is a brown with hmm, I'd say gold glass flecks. It's reminds me a bit of Loreal Owls Night (I think that's the name), but it doesn't have that green cast to it like the Loreal one does.

Soo pretty!

OPI: Every Month is Oktoberfest

I thought since I just showed you one color from the Germany collection, I'd throw Every Month is Oktoberfest at you next. This one reminds me a bit of Clarins 230, with the shimmer and purple. They are nowhere near dupes, and the shimmer in Oktoberfest doesn't change colors, but I think the 1st pick here is a good example of what I'm getting at:

Now in this one, you don't see the similarities as much. Make sure to enlarge the photo to see the details better:

I'm feeling all Harvest-y

Man, I don't know about you, but I'm already all in the Fall mood! I broke out the pumpkin spice candles and I'm about to hit the Franklin Cider Mill on the way to the Renaissance Festival tomorrow morning. The Ren Fest/Cider Mill trip always signals the official start of Fall for me.

Sooo, I need a polish that screams the season, and I chose OPI's Deutsch You Want Me Baby? DYWMB is a bright orange packed full of yellow shimmer, it positively glows.

This photo is a great visual of the yellow shimmer, make sure to enlarge the pick:

Unfortunately, I had a pretty bad nail catastrophe yesterday, I severely broke two nails trying to get a box down from a shelf...and both breaks were on my swatch hand! So I hope you don't mind the one finger swatches for a while.

Wet n Wild Fergie: Heels of Steel

Heels of Steel is a black foil polish that leans a bit gunmetal gray. There was a cool pick of Fergie wearing a mani using Heels of Steel and Going Platinum together that I sooo want to recreate. In fact after Googling it, I found the pick. Check it out:

How hot is that mani?? And I love the pointy tips, I just don't think I could pull that look off. Here's 2 coats of Heels of Steel:

OPI: German-icure by OPI

I ♥ this color!!! I have to say I'm very impressed with the Germany collection so far. I only picked up 4 colors, but the ones I got are just stunning. German-icure by OPI is the 2nd color I've worn so far. It is an awesome blackened red shimmer; this is one coat over black:

So, I decided to add one more pick of GBO, this is two coats worn by itself, but look how great the shimmer is in the sunlight. It's a very "glow from within" color.

OPI: Diva of Geneva

I love a good polish deal, and boy did I get one on this polish. I grabbed this color with my Gosh haul at Big Lots....for $2. DOG (ha!) is a sheer reddish sorta purple shimmer. I guess it was from the Swiss collection a couple of years ago.

Here is one coat over black.

Nabi: #44 New Multi Glitter

Today I have a supercool new color to show off. I was so impressed with my Nabi magnetics, that I decided to try out a few of the glitters as well. This is #44 New Multi Glitter. Not a very creative name! It's packed full of super fine silver micro glitter with a mixture of large silver hexes and smaller hexes in pink, blue and silver all floating in a very sheer orange base. Very interesting mix. This is one coat over OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow.
