Memorial Day Gradient - Major Fail!

Ugh, I clearly do not have the knack for nail art! LOL. I attempted to create a gradient mani for Memorial Day using Red, White and Blue. Now, keep in mind it was my 1st ever attempt! ha ha.

Here's what I started with. I think it had potential, but clearly needed work.  I think I needed to use more polish, it looks kind of dry:

So, stupid me decided to add a layer of Wet n Wild Stars and Stripes overtop...yeah, I should have waited for it to dry a bit more because it smeared the colors together, but not in a good way...like the white became pink...darn!

So, major fail here. But I really want to get a good gradient, so I'm going to keep trying. Does anyone have any tips for me??

Thanks for looking!

  1. I tried the SAME thing last night ( my first ever attempt at a gradient) and it came out the same way... mine was also dry and ugly!!!
Maybe next time I'll attempt only two colors...

    1. You know, two colors would probably be a good place to start. Maybe I set my sights too high for my 1st attempt ☺

  2. It does not look as bad as you think! I like it plus the additions of the stars makes it look super cute.
What type of sponge did you use? because that is what makes all the difference plus i would suggest using the method where u put all the colors in a line on the sponge that usually makes the transition of colors smoother :)

    1. Thanks! I used a makeup wedge. I'm going to try tonight with a kitchen sponge and see how that works out.

  4. It really doesn't look all that bad. Especially for your first gradient!

  5. Don't feel bad, things like aren't really easy. I've never even tried cause I know I won't have the patience to stick it out. I'm sure it gets easier with practice.

    1. I agree, I'm not good with the patience, that's why I can't seem to master a tape mani. But I adore the gradient look, so I'm going to keep trying ☺
