Del Sol Color Changing Polishes pt 1

What a great vacation! There's nothing like a cruise, I highly recommend it 8-)


While shopping in St Thomas, I was able to pick up four Del Sol polishes. In case you haven't heard of Del Sol, the colors change when exposed to UV light. In the store, they sold everything from polish to clothing and jewelry.


The first color is my favorite; Ruby Slippers. Indoors it is a silver glitter in a clear base....


But, when you get it outside, it turns into a bright red. Out of the whole group, this one is the most dramatic changer. You can stand by a window and it'll start turn. Very cool.



The next one up is called Superhero. Indoors it is a very pretty light blue with a frosty look to it.




And outside according to the cap, it's supposed to change into a bright light purple. In real life, it changes into a dark gray-ish purple.


We also hit the MAC store....what a disappointment! I was really just like as big as a counter at a department store....and the prices were more expensive than they are here. Bummer.


I have two more Del Sols to show off, I'll post those tomorrow.

Cruisin

I'll be MIA for the next week while we're on our Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas, St Maarten and St Thomas. I hear St Thomas has a Del Sol and MAC store in the shopping district. Fun!

Hopefully I'll score a cool polish or two to swatch when I get back. I've been eyeing the Dol Sol color changers.

Red Holographic Franken #2

Here is my 2nd red holo. I feel like a bit of a tease, cuz like the previous one, my camera absolutely refused to capture any holo effect at all. Believe me I tried!


This one is more of a true red, it photographs a bit pinker than it is IRL. I used the same yellow holo glitter as the 1st franken I posted, so when the holo does show up, it's multicolored. I wish my camera would have taken a better pick for you! This is a bit gritty having used glitter in it, so it needs a top coat (which I did not apply in the swatch pick).



Recipe:

Maybelline Imperial Red (Dollar Tree color), Sheba yellow holographic glitter and WnW Clear.

Red Holographic Franken #1

The last batch of frankens are from my attempt to create a red holographic polish.

This first one is a chunky holo glitter, kinda like the new Milani's.


This is actually a very purple-ly / burgandy-ish red with large flecks of holo glitter. Very pretty.


Here is a closeup of the flecky glitter. My camera absolutely refuses to capture the holo effect when it comes to reds, so this is the closest I could get. It's kind of like the Milani's, the holo effect isn't strong to begin with, but you do see it in the sunlight.

Franken: Another Un-Named

Today I have another un-named franken, but this time it's not my fault 8-) I got the recipe from Makeup Alley, and the girl who created it hadn't named it. Here is a link to the post: http://www.makeupalley.com/m_107571897


This is a purple jelly with silver and red glitter.


Recipe:
2/3 DW, 1/3 Ravishing, Dahling, several drops of ChG Ruby Pumps. OK, I don't have Ravishing Dahling, so I substituted a different red in it's place, but for the life of me, I can't remember which one I used. Sorry!

Franken: Galaxy

Today's franken is another one from my Shmoopy....and I have to give her props, she is an EXCELLENT frankener! Maybe I'll try to get her to post some of her creations here one day 8-) Umm, please ignore the beer cap! LOL.



It's a black thick jelly with silver glitter and silver holo hex glitter mixed in. I'm sure you can see why it named it galaxy.



I don't have the recipe for this one, but I'm sure if you mixed a black cream with clear and both types of glitter, you could make a close dupe.

Franken: Parade in Times Square

Today's franken was created for me by my BF Shmoopy. Thanks to Donna, she is no longer un-named ☺


It's a blue jelly with silver glitter and large purple holographic diamond glitter. If you enlarge the pick you can see the detail a bit better.



Recipe:

WnW clear, Chelsea Oscar Blue, Martha Stewart silver glitter and Sheba diamond glitter. Here is a shot of the Sheba glitter.


Like the glitter I used in the other franken, I got this directly from the Sheba store. I think you can get a better idea of the holo-ish effect of the glitter from this shot.

Franken: Un-named

To start off franken week, I'm posting my favorite of all my frankens, I just ADORE it. Make sure you enlarge the picks so you can see the detail.



It's a charcoal brown color very similar to the Quirius I posted earlier, the glitter shines a multicolored holo. It's so pretty IRL! But chunky and needs a good top coat. I used the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails on the swatch and I don't think it dulled the holo one bit.

I used WnW clear with a couple of drops of Sally Hansen Lacquer Shine in Glossy and a lot of gold holographic glitter I picked up at a local nail supply store.

I know Sheba Nail supply has an online store, but I can't vouch for it. Their office is located close to my house, so I went directly to the store to get my stuff. They had all sorts of great frankening materials and I think I may feel another trip coming on!!

So, this guy is nameless right now, any suggestions?

Chelsea Kaleidoscope

This is Chelsea's Kaleidoscope. It's a duochrome that flashes grayish blue and green.


Does anyone remember my post about the Toma Metallic Illusion polishes? Toma's Heavenly Body is a dead on dupe to Kaleidoscope. Here is a side by side comparison; the Toma one is on the left and Chelsea is on the right.....
